KEEP SCROLLING — WHY WOOL WORKS

WHY WOOL WORKS

A blister needs three things. Wool takes away all three.

Friction, heat and moisture form the blister triangle. Tape and plasters cover the damage; Hikers Wool removes the causes.

CUSHIONS THE FRICTION

Ultra-fine 16–18 micron merino lofts into a soft pad between skin and sock, spreading pressure across thousands of fibres instead of one burning point.

WICKS THE MOISTURE

Merino draws sweat and vapour away from the skin and releases it through your sock. Dry skin simply doesn't blister the way damp skin does.

STAYS FRESH NATURALLY

Wool doesn't hold odour the way synthetics do. It moves moisture through instead of trapping it, so airing it out overnight is enough to have it ready for tomorrow's miles.

WOOLWELL VS THE REST

Use it before the hot spot, not after

Tape and plasters earn their place once the damage is done. Wool is what you reach for earlier, at the first warm hint of a hot spot.

HOW TO USE

Three steps at the first hot spot

  1. 01

    TEAR

Tear a small tuft from the sliver. A little goes a long way.

  2. 02

    WRAP

Pull it apart gently and wrap it loosely around a single toe, where blisters usually start, or any spot that rubs. Never tight; it moulds to toes, heels and arches alike.

  3. 03

    SECURE

Pull your sock over the top and keep walking. The warmth of your foot felts the wool softly into place.

After the hike, air it out. Reuse the same tuft until it loses its spring. One pouch covers 20–30 applications.

BORN ON AN AUSTRALIAN SHEEP FARM

A farmer and a doctor, walking the same trail

Woolwell began in two places at once: on a merino farm, where Tracy Hamilton grew the wool, and on the trail, where Dr Grace Min, a psychiatrist who hikes every weekend she can, kept feeling the same hot spots mile after mile. Their answer was the oldest fix there is: pure merino sliver, straight from the source, nothing added.

100% AUSTRALIAN MERINO · UNDYED NATURAL COLOUR · GROWN, COMBED AND PACKED IN AUSTRALIA

FROM FARM TO POUCH

Four Australians, one strand of wool

Superfine merino with a 99.9% comfort factor, grown on native grasses near stunning Mudgee, New South Wales. From there it is handled by name, state by state, until it reaches your pack.

MUDGEE, NSW · MARCUS

Marcus shears the flock with care. The fleece is classed and baled right there on site, sorted by an expert eye before it ever leaves the farm.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA · JIM

Jim washes and scours it. Because we select exceptionally clean, top-quality wool, no carbonising or acid treatment is needed, so a portion of the fleece's natural lanolin stays right where it belongs.

VICTORIA · TRISHA & CHARLIE

Trisha and Charlie card, gill and mechanically clean the sliver, lifting out vegetable matter by machine alone. No harsh chemistry anywhere in the chain.

Soft, absorbent and breathable, it cushions against friction and keeps feet and toes comfortable on a long hike or run. It works just as well tucked inside a pair of gardening gloves. We love sharing the qualities of this valuable, ethically grown fibre with you. Enjoy the journey.

HIKERS WOOL · 20G POUCH

Put a pouch in your pack

One pouch rides along for a season of weekends. The pouch itself is plastic-free kraft paper.

Gently washed, never carbonised. No harsh chemicals touch the fleece between farm and pouch. You may find the odd tiny fleck of vegetable matter in your wool; consider it proof of the real thing.
